Orthodontics

For many people, the goal of a beautiful, healthy smile is the main reason for seeking orthodontic care. If you're embarrassed or feel self-conscious about misaligned teeth, braces will significantly improve the way you feel about your appearance.

As an adult, there are a number of reasons why you may want to consider orthodontic treatment. Maybe you’ve never had braces, or you did, but neglected to wear your retainer, which allowed your teeth to change position. Or, we may have identified a bite with your problem that needs to be corrected with a combination of orthodontics and orthognathic surgery.

Faster, More Comfortable Treatment

At Arcadia Dentaldontics, we offer metal brackets, clear brackets and Invisalign.  These updated materials are designed to gradually move your teeth with minimal discomfort and disruption to your life.

Today we have a variety of effective orthodontic treatment options at our disposal. If you’re an adult who needs minor treatment or you have a child struggling with alignment issues, we’ll help you find the perfect solution. With these great advancements, you can achieve your dream smile regardless of your age.

Children's Orthodontics

For kids, there’s an optimal window of time to begin orthodontic treatment. It’s always preferable to address certain dental problems sooner rather than later. Early treatment ensures that we can achieve the best possible results with the least amount of time and expense.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the first evaluation occur around age seven or as soon as we detect any sign of orthodontic problems. By this age, your child’s first permanent molars and incisors should have emerged, allowing us to evaluate crowding, crossbites, and other alignment issues.

Orthodontic treatment may not be necessary at this stage, but it’s critical to monitor your child’s dental development so we can anticipate the need for braces. Dr. Whang will evaluate your child’s situation carefully and make appropriate recommendations. She may suggest treatment like space maintainers to make room for permanent teeth that haven’t yet emerged. Early treatment helps us:

  • Reduce the need for extractions
  • Eliminate speech problems
  • Correct habits, such as thumb-sucking, tongue thrust, lip habit, etc.
  • Minimize the risk for impacted permanent teeth

Older children or teens who need orthodontic treatment may be concerned about the way that metal braces affect their appearance. We do offer traditional braces, but we can also recommend tooth-colored brackets that are less noticeable.

Invisalign for Adults and Teens

Older teens and adults will appreciate the benefits of Invisalign to address alignment problems.  Invisalign is a progressive system of clear plastic aligners that gradually shift teeth into their ideal positions. The aligners are smooth and comfortable, virtually invisible when worn, and completely removable for eating, brushing and flossing.

As with any orthodontic treatment, we must evaluate your alignment issues before we can decide if Invisalign is a good choice for you. Each case is unique, but treatment for adults can usually be completed in about a year. Treatment times for teens are usually the same as with traditional orthodontics.

Our priority is to make sure that you feel comfortable and confident during your orthodontic treatment. We’re all dedicated to making sure that your family receives high-quality, compassionate dental care.

We accept most major dental insurance plans, but we know that you may have questions about your specific coverage. Please don’t hesitate to contact us, and we’ll be happy to assist you in getting the answers you’re looking for. We offer extended hours and will help you schedule a convenient appointment that fits your busy schedule. Frequently Asked Questions

Orthodontics is a special area of dentistry that concentrates on diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial abnormalities. As an orthodontist, Dr. Julie Whang has specialized training beyond dental school, including three years of additional post-graduate studies. Orthodontists don’t just straighten teeth; their training enables them to correct misaligned jaw structure and improve the overall function of your smile.

At Arcadia Dentaldontics, we understand the benefits of enjoying a perfectly aligned smile. Many people choose to have orthodontic treatment because they want to improve their appearance. But crooked teeth can lead to problems that go beyond esthetics.

If your teeth are not properly aligned, you're at risk for a variety of oral health problems. Crooked and crowded teeth make proper oral hygiene difficult, which can result in periodontal disease. Misaligned teeth also lead to problems with your dental bite, which in turn can lead to teeth grinding, excessive wearing of teeth, and even TMJ.

Dentistry has many areas of specialty, and choosing an orthodontist for your braces makes sense. Advanced skill and training allows Dr. Whang to create a plan for treatment that takes your overall oral health into consideration.

We would be happy to provide more information about orthodontics and how they can improve your life. Please call today, and we’ll arrange a complimentary consultation so we can answer all your questions.
